STRESS...the famous word that everyone dreads. what better way to escape from stress but have a relaxing weekend getaway. hence, my Tagaytay weekend.
Tagaytay is one of my favorite places on earth. it's near, it's cold, it's refreshing, it's beautiful. an overnight stay can actually do something for your body, mind and soul.
i love waking up to the beautiful view of Taal. it energizes me, makes me smile and makes me still believe that life is wonderful. i started my weekend tour with a sumptuously healthy Saturday dinner at Sonya's.
the last time i visited Sonya's was 2 years ago. imagine that. i was glad to see that the place still looks fantastic. they now have their own panaderia where customers can buy their delicious breads. i was so excited to devour their salad with its crunchy lettuce and arugula leaves. plus drown myself in their Dalandan Juice. i tell you, it's the BEST dalandan juice in the entire ocean!
i love the many ramikins that occupied most of the table space. they contain lots of good stuff- sliced ripe mangoes, cubed melons, sliced cucumbers, pineapples, popped beans, anchiovies, black olives, cubed kesong puti, mushroom pate, pesto.
after the salad and bread, came the linguine pasta. their pasta sauces came in those cute ramikins again -sun-dried tomatoes, ratatouille, chicken in cream, mushrooms, capers and salmon belly. the salmon belly scored higher points for me 'cause aside from me being a salmon lover, they now serve salmon belly with their pasta. it was not included in their menu 2 years ago and it's good to know that Sonya's is still creating ways to improve their menu. dessert consisted of minatamis na kamote, turon and one of the best chocolate cake i've ever tasted.
by the end of my almost 3-hour-long dinner, i was stuffed.
the next morning, my early Sunday breakfast consisted of 2 eggs over-easy, strips of bacon, sausages, toasts paired with hot chocolate. hay sarap. after breakfast, i just lounged about in my room, took Edu out and watched one of my favorite series of all time, House M.D. of course, Edu has to go with me. magtatampo yun 'pag hindi ko siya sinama sa Tagaytay. i went for a late checkout time, 2pm, so i can spend more time in bed with Edu and Dr. House.
i've been going to Tagaytay eversince i can remember but i still haven't gone to Mushroom Burger. can you believe that? that's why i decided to have my lunch at the famous Mushroom Burger. ang daming tao. sikat pa rin siya hanggang ngayon. i liked the toy train that goes around the restaurant carrying the empty plastic cup, plastic container and takeout box with logos of Mushroom Burger. people told me that the toy train has been circling the restaurant for years now. anyway, i was kind of expecting a weird taste when i took a bite from the burger i ordered but it was actually better than Burger McDo. hehe.
Calaruega was next. i love Calaruega because of it's grandeur and simplicity at the same time. as soon as i saw a glimpse of the chapel from the road, i instantly felt God's presence and immediately uttered my BIG THANK YOU for the good life he has been continuously giving me.
when i got inside the premises, one hall is being decorated for a wedding reception and the chapel is bustling with people waiting for a wedding to start. the weather is just perfect for a perfect Calaruega wedding.
i suddenly remembered a conversation i had with Neilky the first time we went to Calaruega:
Me: Neilky, gusto kong ikasal dito.
Neilky: ay basta ako, gusto kong ikasal. period.
after Calaruega, i went to Bag O' Beans to have some desserts. the last time i went to Bag O' Beans, i ordered their Mocha Shake and i loved it! so i ordered it again but this time, i tried their other yummy treats too.
everything i ordered is delicious! i will try their pasta on my next visit 'cause i saw a lot of their patrons ordering their pasta dishes. the thing i love about Bag O' Beans is the relaxed garden atmosphere and their Mayna bird that kept on saying "thank you". on my next visit, i will make an attempt to teach the Mayna to say "cherfer", "balik po kayorn" and "i kner, right?" lol.
it was almost 6:30pm when i left Bag O' Beans. Dinnertime. next stop was the famous Leslie's. i love Leslie's, with their open dining area, friendly staff, good service and great food. malamig na sa Tagaytay. buti nalang nagbigay sila ng free Bulalo soup kasi kung hindi, baka nanigas na ako sa lamig. hehe. of course, i ordered my all-time favorite Crispy Pata and Tortang Talong. hay sarap. while having dinner, they have one set of performers dropping by every table to serenade the customers. after dinner, i took a stroll in Leslie's spacious backyard which faces the majestic Taal Volcano. too bad i can't see any views of the volcano because it was already nighttime. pero masarap pa rin ang simoy ng hangin kasi malamig.
speaking of malamig, of course i won't allow to freeze myself to death so i went to my final stop- Mocha Blends.
for those people who knows me too well, they know that i am a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf addict/loyal patron/number 1 fan. but since there's no CBTL in Tagaytay, i go to either Figaro or Mocha Blends.
i chose Mocha Blends that night because it's on the 2nd floor of the Magallanes Square Building. i kinda like the idea of sipping hot dark mocha on a cold Sunday night with a nice view of the Tagaytay main road and the many restaurants that line up the highway.
after 2 hours, i decided to head back to Manila. before i completely left Tagaytay, i stopped by the fruit stands to buy kilos of banana, ripe mango and sweet potato. pasalubong ko sa nanay ko.
most people take the Sta. Rosa route from Tagaytay to Manila, but not me. on my way home, i decided to take the Cavite route. my friend Jeddo refers to it as the "scenic route" because of the many things that you will see along the way -houses, trees, buses, jeepneys, tricycles, balut vendors, wet market, Robinson's, SM, pedicabs at kung anu-ano pa. ergo, Scenic.
since there's no traffic, i got home fast. balik Maynila na ulit. but even so, i was so thankful to my Tagaytay Weekend Getaway because i felt recharged, refreshed and relaxed.
babalik ako ulit sa Tagaytay soon. tara, sama ka!
